Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) comments on the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
"This could open a window of opportunity, but there are still many uncertainties," she writes on X.
Malmer Stenergard also writes that "Iran's future must belong to the people," but adds that "the road to getting there is long."
She warns that the risk of a spiral of violence in the Middle East is still great.
Malmer Stenergard will participate in a video meeting with EU foreign ministers later today to discuss the situation and how the EU can contribute to Iran's future.
