"It's extremely serious information. I have long assumed that what I say in that room will be heard by Russia," she says.

According to information provided to The Washington Post, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has called his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov to report on what was discussed at various EU meetings.

Malmer Stenergard notes that Szijjártó also took a shuttle to the Kremlin. She has suspected for some time that information is leaking. Asked whether she adjusts her statements in EU circles, she replied:

Russia can easily hear most of what I say.

What possible sanctions may be applicable remains to be seen, the minister says.
