The automotive giant Stellantis is pausing production at two facilities in Canada and Mexico as of Monday. The reason is President Donald Trump's 25 percent car tariffs, which came into effect on Thursday, reports CNBC.
In an email to employees, Antonio Filosa, head of Stellantis in North America, writes that work is currently underway to assess the effects of the tariffs on the company's operations.
Production at a factory in Canada will be stopped for two weeks, while the facility in Mexico will remain closed until the end of April.
The decision means that thousands of employees will be temporarily laid off.
