Skarsgård, who is current in the upcoming Norwegian drama "Sentimental value", is awarded the honorary prize at the film festival's 31st edition in August.
Skarsgård has long had a close relationship with the festival and is both curator and one of the patrons of the Katrin Cartlidge Foundation, whose scholarships have previously been awarded in Sarajevo.
Sarajevo Film Festival remains unwavering and driven by a strong will to live. I love going there, says Skarsgård.
The festival's CEO Jovan Marjanović says:
It is a true honor to give the honorary prize to Stellan Skarsgård, an actor with impressive depth, strength and integrity. His career is filled with unforgettable roles in films that touch and stay with the audience. The prize is a heartfelt thank you for his outstanding contribution to the film art and the support he has shown our festival.
The film festival in Sarajevo takes place between August 15 and 22.
