STCC has been canceled two years in a row after failing to finance an electric car investment.

But the competition will make a comeback in 2027. The initiative will be run by an ownership group consisting of four Swedish circuits, Gelleråsen, Mantorp, Knutstorp and Ljungbyhed, and the idea is that the championship will consist of six race weekends.

"The interest in the restart of STCC has exceeded our expectations," says five-time STCC champion Richard Göransson, who represents the ownership group, in a press release.

Also new is that GT4 cars are replacing the classic standard cars that have been used in STCC since its inception in 1996.
