The state's expenditure on culture increased to 9.1 billion kronor in 2024. This is an increase of 0.5 percent compared to 2023, according to new statistics from the Agency for Cultural Analysis.

However, this means a decrease of 2.2 percent when taking into account inflation.

Looking at culture's total share of state expenditures, it decreased from 0.72 percent in 2023 to 0.66 percent in 2024.

The most money was allocated to theater, dance, and music with 2.6 billion kronor, followed by museums and exhibitions with 2.1 billion kronor.

The Royal Opera received 514 million kronor last year, compared to 512 million the year before. The Opera is also the only institution that received increased funding.
