Oil giant Eni is sponsoring the Olympics in Italy. Now over 140 athletes, including several Olympic gold medalists, are demanding that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) end its collaboration with oil companies.

The demand is made in an open letter following a public petition by the Ski Fossil Free campaign, which has collected over 23,000 signatures.

In the letter, the athletes, who come from 22 countries and a variety of sports, write that "The biggest threat to the Olympic dream is fossil fuels."

Among them is former slalom star André Myhrer.

"This is a topic I am passionate about; it is a topic I believe in and something that is more important than ever," Myhrer writes in a comment to TT.

The initiator of the campaign is the Swedish cross-country skier Björn Sandström.
