It was in December 2025 that a video from a private individual spread on social media, showing whiplash being heard against a trotting horse during a training round.
Törnqvist was suspended for 18 months and fined 300,000 kronor for inappropriate treatment of a horse and violations of animal welfare regulations.
It was the Swedish Trotting Sports Licensing Committee that made the decision, after a nine-month investigation.
The verdict was appealed.
While awaiting a decision, Törnqvist has had his license reinstated. The Supreme Court's chairman, Stefan Wendén, confirms the decision to Expressen.
Driver Dwight Pieters, who was suspended for three months, has also had his license reinstated.
