Elias Pettersson – one of the team's big stars – is injured, according to coach Rick Tocchet, as reported by Sportsnet. Something seems to have happened to the Swede during the Four Nations tournament, where he was pointless but played all three matches.
Pettersson left the ice during Friday's practice, and his injury status is described as "day-to-day", which means he can return at any time, but the medical staff cannot determine exactly when that will be.
In addition, Vancouver is also missing team captain Quinn Hughes, who is still out due to the injury that prevented him from representing the USA in the recent four-nation tournament, as well as starting goalie Thatcher Demko.
Vancouver is currently fourth in the Pacific Division, which means a wildcard spot in the playoffs. However, it is a precarious position, with only three points ahead of chasing Calgary.
When the NHL resumes this weekend, Vancouver will start with a five-game road trip. First up is Vegas.
