"Fortune hotel", based on a British model, is described as a "luxurious strategy game". Ten pairs compete to find a bag with one million kronor in, at a hotel located on a Greek island. The pairs are a mixed bunch of romantic couples, siblings, colleagues, and friends, and suspense and intrigue are promised.
There are several parts to this that are appealing. It feels very fun to do a completely new program. It's a completely new format, but also a genre that none of us have worked in before, says Renée Nyberg.
But it's not the first time the pair has hosted together. The pair met in 2002 during the recording of "Slussen" for TV3.
It was shut down and was what we call a fiasco. So after that, 23 years have passed and now it's time!
The Concept Challenge
Recordings in Greece begin as early as today.
We haven't done this type of program before, so in that sense, it's a challenge. We've done many large entertainment programs in studios and interviewed current celebrities in our days, but this is a completely new genre for us, says David Hellenius.
In the UK, the model for the program has gone very well. Renée Nyberg describes it as a mix of "White Lotus" and "Förrädarna".
The concept is something the TV audience is asking for, according to the hosting duo: it's about being strategic and building alliances, each episode offers a new twist, and the participants are ordinary people.
I think TV viewers demand more nowadays. They want to be involved, get to know the participants, and be able to follow their successes and disappointments, says David Hellenius.
"Hoping for Many Years"
He doesn't rule out that there may be more collaboration between them, if "Fortune hotel" goes well.
We hope, of course, that this will become a long-runner. It's a large entertainment program and a major investment for TV4 and weekend entertainment, so we hope that we'll get to do this for many years.
"Fortune hotel" premieres this fall on TV4 Play/TV4.
