I assume I'm allergic. My hands and wrists turned red and swelled up badly, says the tennis star at a press conference according to Expressen.

Raducanu, who won the US Open in 2021, refused treatment to alleviate the swelling.

This is due to the latest doping scandals in tennis involving stars Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek. Raducanu believes that the cases have created anxiety about medication and treatments.

It's obviously a concern for us. We're all in the same boat. I think we're all trying to handle it as best we can based on what we can control. If something happens outside of our control, it will be difficult to prove it, says Raducanu.

I just thought I'd get through it because I didn't want to risk anything.

Raducanu faces Russian Jekaterina Alexandrova in the first round of the Australian Open. The tournament begins on Sunday.
