It was at a demonstration on Thursday that Moska Hassas, who in August became the new chairman of the Social Democratic Party's youth association, SSU, wore a Palestinian scarf with a map where Israel was erased and where it said "Jerusalem is ours" in Arabic. In a picture from the demonstration, Hassas is seen together with, among others, S-tops Morgan Johansson and Annika Strandhäll.
Since the picture has spread and the message has been criticized, among other things for being Islamist, in social media, Moska Hassas has taken distance.
"At a demonstration on Thursday, I got a scarf from a person on site, and did not see the text on it. I have now been made aware of the text which neither I nor SSU stand behind. Want to be clear that this was a mistake", she writes on X.
The chairman of the Jewish Central Council, Aron Verständig, writes on X: "When a person who sits in the leadership of Sweden's largest party puts on a garment with such a message, it creates an ambiguity that is very problematic."
Moska Hassas also emphasizes that SSU will always "stand up for the two-state solution, and for the right of Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and freedom".
