The accident happened during a training session at home in Brisbane. According to an Instagram post, Gout injured the back of his thigh.
"I got the results from the MRI and unfortunately the news is not good," the 18-year-old writes on Instagram.
The Australian sprinter has shocked the athletics world with several superb times in the 200 metres. Among other things, he ran 19.67 at the Australian Championships this spring, a time that would have been enough for a medal at the Paris Olympics.
But now the injury has ended his season, meaning he will miss the U20 World Championships in the US in August.
"My focus will now be on rehab in the coming weeks and ensuring I come back stronger in 2027," he writes.
