A change in daily operations and a different set of demands on the players is the reason for the shift, according to Hammarby's sports director Mikael Hjelmberg.
On Friday morning, Hammarby announced that Kalle Karlsson will leave after just six months.
"We felt a need for change in our daily operations and in leadership. We are quite confident that Henrik can bring that to bear," says Hjelmberg.
How do you view your own responsibility for recruiting a coach who was fired after eleven rounds?
It was a failure, of course, and that responsibility falls on me. We now hope that with this change it will be better.
Rydström was already in the news when Kalle Karlsson got the job.
Henrik was also involved in the process then, but we decided that Kalle Karlsson was the best choice, says Hjelmberg.
