The Halland Region refuses to pay damages following the sperm scandal at the then-Halmstad County Hospital. This means the dispute will go to court, local media report.

"Since there is a lack of practice that can guide compensation in such unique circumstances, we see a need for a legal review of the compensation claim," says the region's chief physician, Anders Åkvist, in a press release.

A few years ago, it was discovered that several men had unknowingly become fathers after undergoing fertility tests at the hospital.

The current case concerns two men and their now-adult biological daughters, who together filed a claim for damages with the region last fall.
