Möregårdh has received great attention for his performances at the ping-pong table around the world. Not as much attention is paid to his efforts off the table.
It was really special to meet David. I like him immensely, we do most things together and have both fun experiences and tough periods that we've experienced, says Truls Möregårdh after Eslöv's 4–1 win against Kävlinge in the ping league.
Ambassador for Young Cancer
When his best friend and club mate in Eslöv AI, David Andersson, was diagnosed with leukemia five years ago, Möregårdh was by his side all the time.
He was very often at the hospital with me and was a great support. He is my best friend. He is humble and does a lot that people don't see, says David Andersson.
Since Andersson fell ill, Truls Möregårdh has been involved with and appointed ambassador for Young Cancer, and raises large sums for research through various assignments.
He is also an ambassador for Hjärtuppropet, an assignment he shares with, among others, Sarah Sjöström, David Lagercrantz, Joe Labero, and Carola Häggkvist.
Almost daily since Truls Möregårdh moved to Eslöv, the friends have trained together. It has also become a doubles match, and they have a gold together from the youth SM 2015.
72 consecutive wins
However, until Tuesday, they had only met once in singles, in a local tournament on Öland when they were ten years old.
In senior contexts, it was the first time they faced each other. They both play for Eslöv AI, but in the team, David Andersson is registered for BTK Kävlinge.
David Andersson could not beat OS silver medalist Möregårdh, but they treated the audience to several spectacular balls. The most stylish one was made by Andersson when he made a perfectly placed serve, reminiscent of Jan-Ove Waldner.
That's something I'll probably hear about for a while. He would have liked to beat me today, says Truls Möregårdh.
Now it didn't happen, and Möregårdh extends his streak to 72 consecutive wins in the ping league.
