Spanish train drivers are planning a three-day strike to demand safety measures after two recent fatal train accidents.

The strike, set for February 9-11, involves employees at all of the country's train companies, the trade union Semaf announced.

On Sunday, 43 people were killed in a train derailment and collision in Andalusia. A few days later, on Tuesday, one person died in a commuter train accident in Catalonia when a wall collapsed as the train passed.

The accidents represent a turning point, Semaf writes, stating that train workers have long demanded upgrades to improve safety in the country's railway system.
