The former Spanish tennis star Juan Aguilera has died at the age of 63. The legend Rafael Nadal is one of several who honors his compatriot on social media.
"My respectful condolences go to Juan Aguilera's family and friends. A great profile in our sport who will be greatly missed. Rest in peace", writes Nadal, who has taken 22 Grand Slam titles, on X.
Aguilera, who was also a talented musician, took, among other things, five singles titles on the ATP tour during his career, all of which were on clay. The biggest title came in Hamburg in 1990, when it was a so-called Masters 1,000 tournament. The Spaniard was ranked as high as seventh in the world in 1984, according to the ATP website.
