Spanish Soccer Star Aitana Bonmatí Leaves Hospital Before Euro Championship

Spain's midfield star Aitana Bonmatí was hospitalized in recent days, after the 27-year-old was affected by meningitis. This with only days left until the European Championship premiere in Switzerland.

She has now been discharged from the hospital, according to several Spanish media outlets.

The Spanish national team flies down to Switzerland on Sunday, but Bonmatí is not expected to join the team until a few days later.

Spain plays its European Championship premiere against Portugal on Thursday, July 3.

According to Marca, Bonmatí will not play that match, but is expected to be able to participate later in the tournament.

Bonmatí has been awarded the Ballon D'or, the prize for the best football player of the year, on two occasions – 2023 and 2024. In everyday life, she is a teammate of the Swedish player Fridolina Rolfö in the Spanish top team Barcelona.
