Assistant national team captain will be Iraia Iturregi.

Montse Tomé took over as national team captain after the World Championship gold in 2023 when Jorge Vilda was fired after the turmoil surrounding the association chairman Luis Rubiales who kissed the World Championship player Jennifer Hermoso.

Bermúdez has played 63 international matches for Spain, and has been captain, and has played for among others Barcelona and Western New York Flash. She has nine league titles and has been top scorer four seasons in a row, writes the Spanish Football Association on its website.

She has been a coach in Real Madrid and for the U19, U20 and U23 national teams.

Iturregi has also played in the top division in Spain, for Athletic Bilbao, and in the national team. Since 2019, she has been a coach in Bilbao.

England won the European Championship final in Basel at the end of July after a penalty shootout.
