Spain warns of heatwave with temperatures above 45 degrees as wildfire risk rises

Spain is heading toward the third heatwave of the summer, with temperatures that could exceed 45 degrees in parts of the country.

The meteorological agency Aemet has issued a special heatwave warning on X. The extreme heat is expected to reach the country on Tuesday and last until Thursday. Aemet also warns that the risk of forest fires is expected to rise to very high levels, while dry thunderstorms may occur in mountainous areas during the week.

More than 1,200 people have been forced to flee a new major forest fire raging north of Madrid on Monday. The fire has already destroyed more than 26,000 hectares of land, according to the fire service.

According to Aemet's data, heatwaves have become more common and are occurring earlier in the year.
