A total of 5,111 heat-related deaths were recorded during June, July and August this year.
The previous highest figure, 4,562, was recorded during the same period in 2022.
The number has been estimated using data that tracks daily mortality rates across the country and compares them with historical trends. The assessment also includes other factors, including weather data, to allow for an estimate of the likely causes of increases in mortality.
