Thousands of Spanish football fans gathered in the capital, Madrid, to watch the final against Argentina.
When victory was confirmed, the atmosphere among spectators at one of the city's big screens erupted. Accompanied by car horns and vuvuzelas, the crowd broke into a sing-along of Queen's "We are the champions."
"We deserved it, we played really well. We had the ball the whole time, Argentina barely touched it. We are completely overwhelmed with emotion," said Angela Lambea, one of the ecstatic Spanish fans.
