The parliament in Spain voted on Wednesday for the bill proposal which means that a weapons embargo is introduced for export to Israel. The bill proposal has been presented by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
According to the Socialist Party's leader, the reason for the embargo is the desire to put an end to the "genocide in Gaza".
Spain's government has already previously prohibited the sale to or import of weapons from Israel due to the war in Gaza. But in September, Sánchez announced that he wanted to formalize the decision into a law in the parliament in Madrid.
Uncertainty about the result remained before the vote, but the far-left party Podemos chose to vote for the government proposal despite previous criticism.
178 members voted for the bill proposal, while 169 members voted against.
