Thousands of people have so far been evacuated in a number of European countries because of the rapid spread of forest and brush fires.
Late on Thursday, Spain declared a state of emergency in the Madrid region and the province of Ávila after what was described as an "uncontrolled" spread.
Around Madrid, about 10,000 people have so far been evacuated, and the state of emergency is intended to speed up efforts to fight the fires with military help.
France has also been hit by several large fires, and the country has now requested EU assistance to help contain the spread.
"We will soon receive reinforcements in the form of two Croatian Canadair aircraft, two Portuguese Air Tractor aircraft and two Black Hawk helicopters for heavy transport from the Czech Republic and Slovakia," President Emmanuel Macron writes on X.
