According to the Spanish Ministry of Defense, the decision is part of the will to distance itself from Israeli military technology.
The agreement concerned the anti-tank missile of type 168 Spike LR 2 and was worth around 285 million euros, equivalent to around 3.1 billion kronor. The missile is to be manufactured by Pap Tecnos, which is a Spanish-based subsidiary of the Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
The goal is clear, a total disconnection from Israeli technology, says the Spanish government's spokesperson Pilar Alegría, and adds that the government is now examining the consequences of the agreement being stopped.
The Israeli government refers questions about the deal to the company Rafael.
The Spanish government says at the same time that in principle all export of weapons to Israel should have stopped as of October 2, 2023.
