It was Starship 36 that was to be tested at the facility called Starbase in southern Texas on Wednesday night. The test consisted of starting the engines on a stationary spacecraft, but something went very wrong – live images show how the entire area is transformed into a sea of fire in a fraction of a second.

”The Starship that was being prepared for a tenth test flight encountered a large anomaly”, writes Space X, the multi-billionaire Elon Musk's space company.

”There is no danger to nearby residents and we ask people not to approach the area while the safety work is in progress”, it says further.

Starship is a giant rocket that is intended to transport material and astronauts to establish a human presence on the moon and Mars. But it is not yet fully developed.
