On Thursday, Energy Minister Ebba Busch (KD) and a number of agency heads will appear before the Riksdag’s Economic Affairs Committee to report on the energy situation ahead of winter. Busch will also hold a press conference afterwards.

Svenska kraftnät’s latest forecast shows that the risk of power shortages is low. However, having sufficient resources to meet electricity demand does not mean that prices will be stable. The risk of high electricity prices for households remains significant, Svenska kraftnät writes.

Several factors are currently driving up electricity prices. The conflict in the Middle East is pushing up the global market price of natural gas, water reservoirs in Sweden and Norway are lower than normal, and transmission capacity from northern to southern Sweden is limited.

Electricity prices have been particularly high recently in southern Sweden, in electricity area SE4. The spot price so far in October has averaged SEK 1.54/kWh on the electricity exchange.

The high-cost protection for high electricity prices, introduced in November 2025 and running throughout 2026, applies if the average electricity price in an electricity area exceeds SEK 1.50/kWh during a month.

Last winter, a temporary electricity and gas subsidy was paid for January and February to compensate for high energy costs due to a cold winter and the uncertain global situation.
