The English Football Association (FA) announced that the 33-year-old will be fined the equivalent of approximately 370,000 kronor (about $35,200) for his involvement in what became known in England as “spygate.” Eckert’s suspension is suspended until the end of the 2027–28 season, which means he can continue to coach the club.
In English football, it is illegal to spy on an opposing team during training. That is why Championship club Southampton were barred from playing in this spring's playoff final after it was discovered that the club had filmed Middlesbrough's training ahead of the playoff semi-final.
