South Korea and US shorten joint military drills after Trump calls for cutback

The exercise will end on Friday instead of August 27, South Korea said. The two countries have also agreed to reduce the scope of some parts of the exercise.

The drills began on Monday, and Trump said he wanted them scaled back. The president has said they are too expensive but also that they “send signals that are totally inappropriate and hostile” to North Korea - a country that he said “has only been respectful and not threatening” during his time as president.
