Since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, Ukraine's airspace has been closed, meaning that trains are the only option for getting to Kyiv.

Negotiations between the US, Russia and Ukraine have been on hold for over two months while the US has been preoccupied with the war in Iran. However, both Witkoff and Kushner have previously visited Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"They have promised (to visit Kyiv) many times, but so far have not done it even once," says a frustrated government source.
