The United States plans to withdraw approximately 1,000 soldiers it has stationed in Syria, American media report, citing sources.

US forces are reportedly leaving Syria over the next two months after the Syrian government expanded its control over the country, the Wall Street Journal and CBS News report.

The announcement comes after American forces recently left bases used in a US-led operation against the terrorist group ISIS.

Since the overthrow of Syria's former dictator Bashar al-Assad in 2024, the US government has been engaging with Syria's new government.
