After the agreement on a memorandum of understanding, the parties were supposed to meet in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, for follow-up negotiations starting on Friday. But that did not happen.

US Vice President JD Vance canceled his trip at the last minute, and later sources reported that the talks did not take place due to continued Israeli attacks on the Iran-linked Shia militia Hezbollah in Lebanon, attacks that Iran demanded should cease.

Now Axios reports that envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to Switzerland for possible new talks. His partner, Jared Kushner - Trump’s son-in-law - is said to have already arrived. The duo has represented the Trump administration in a number of previous negotiations.

Axios' sources also state that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi plans to travel to Switzerland on Saturday.

In addition, Pakistan's Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, is on his way to Tehran on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghei told the Iranian news agency Isna. The visit is part of Pakistan's efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran, according to Isna.

On Friday, the Israeli military announced that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to a ceasefire, the scope of which is not yet fully clear.
