After the agreement on a memorandum of understanding, the parties were supposed to meet in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, for follow-up negotiations starting on Friday. But that did not happen.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance canceled his trip at the last minute and later sources reported that the talks did not take place because of continued Israeli attacks on Hezbollah, an Iran-linked Shia militia in Lebanon, which Iran had demanded should cease.
Now Axios reports that envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to Switzerland for possible new talks. His partner, Jared Kushner - Trump’s son-in-law - is said to have already arrived. The duo has represented the Trump administration in a number of previous negotiations.
During the day, the Israeli military announced that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to a ceasefire, the scope of which was not yet fully clear.
