There has already been an American base on the island. It is unclear where the US plans to place the bases, but according to DR, the country has previously been interested in the airport in Narsarsuaq in the southern part of the island.
However, sources to the Reuters news agency indicate that southern Greenland is being considered for a new base, as well as another on the east coast.
Few details of the security agreement between the United States, Greenland and Denmark are known, but according to President Donald Trump, the new agreement will give the United States “permanent control over security” on the island. At the same time, the agreement is described as a victory for Denmark in national media.
