They are expected to discuss phase two of the peace plan for Gaza.
A shaky ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas has been in place since October 10. During phase two, it is said that Hamas will be disarmed and that Israeli forces will withdraw further from Gaza.
These are issues that could prove difficult to resolve. Hamas has refused to give up its weapons “as long as the occupation continues,” while Israel, rather than preparing a withdrawal, is reported to have advanced its positions.
Meanwhile, over 480 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the ceasefire came into effect, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
