Denmark, Greenland, and the United States will meet at the foreign minister level on Wednesday, Danish TV2 reports. Later this week, U.S. senators will discuss Greenland in Copenhagen.

US Senator Marco Rubio has confirmed that he will meet with Danish representatives this week, but has not announced any details.

Danish TV2 reports, citing the authorities' calendar in Washington, that Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Greenland's Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt are traveling to the US capital for discussions with Rubio on Wednesday.

According to the AP news agency, a delegation from the US Congress will visit Copenhagen on Friday and Saturday in an attempt to calm the waters and show that the US and Denmark are united after all. The group of at least nine people will consist of both Republicans and Democrats, and they will meet with high-level Danish and Greenlandic politicians.

They may also be met with large demonstrations, which according to TV2 are planned for several Danish cities on Saturday.

US President Donald Trump has recently repeated previous statements that the country wants to take over Greenland, which is a partially self-governing territory of Denmark. The comments have sparked strong reactions in Denmark.
