At least 22 people have been killed since the war began on February 28, according to five sources said to have very good insight into the matter.

One source says the death toll is 23.

Three people who were contract employees for the US military have also been killed since the fighting broke out.

The Pentagon, by comparison, lists a total of 18 deaths in its database of casualties in the ongoing operations in the Middle East.

At the same time, one of The Washington Post's sources says that all of the unlisted deaths are not directly related to the conflict, but that they were military personnel who were in the region while the fighting was ongoing.
