Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked US President Donald Trump for continued support regarding the legal process he is facing at home, according to sources.

The plea reportedly came in a long phone call between them on Monday, according to an Israeli and two American sources, Axios reports.

The conversation was largely about Gaza and Syria, but it also reportedly touched on the legal process surrounding Netanyahu.

On Sunday, Netanyahu submitted a formal application to President Isaac Herzog for pardon in three cases in which he is accused of fraud, bribery and breach of trust.

Herzog has said he will take a position “responsibly and honestly” once he has received all legal opinions, a process that could take two months.

Trump has previously sided with Netanyahu on the issue several times and, among other things, urged Herzog to pardon him.
