According to Reuters' anonymous sources, the cuts were recently communicated by the company's top executives to their subordinates.
According to the news agency, the cuts are intended to compensate for the enormous sums that Meta has plowed into AI. The company has, among other things, offered salaries of hundreds of millions of dollars to attract leading AI researchers and announced investments of $600 billion in new data centers.
Meta declined to confirm the plans.
“This is speculative reporting on theoretical approaches,” a spokesperson said in a comment to Reuters.
The company had nearly 79,000 employees at the end of last year.
