Rubio and his closest advisers are said to be discussing the path forward - concerns reinforced by the Republicans’ disastrous election. Sources say Rubio has already spoken to White House staff and said he wanted to leave his post as secretary of state, but that he has been urged to stay.
The State Department denies the reports.
Spokesperson Dylan Johnson tells Bloomberg News that the reports are false:
This is completely and utterly false (fake) news coming from anonymous sources, news that is at the level of evening newspapers.
The White House has not commented on Bloomberg’s reports.
