After US President Donald Trump canceled envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner's trip to Pakistan for new talks on the Iran war this weekend, the situation has been described as a stalemate.
Now, Axios, citing American sources, reports that the United States has received a new proposal for a deal from Iran. The full content of the proposal is not known, but according to the report, Iran wants to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the war, while postponing talks on its nuclear program to a later date.
The US government has repeatedly highlighted Iran's nuclear program and uranium enrichment as reasons for the war. The US has been blockading Iranian ports for some time to put pressure on Iran in the negotiations.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently visited Pakistan, the mediating country, and will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin for talks on Monday.
According to the pro-regime Iranian news agency Isna, Araghchi will also "consult with Russian officials about the latest state of the negotiations, the ceasefire and surrounding developments."
