Since the International Football Association Board (FIFA) presented its now-scrapped plan to sell shares of, among other things, the World Cup to private investors, opposition to chairman Gianni Infantino has grown sharply.

Leaders within three confederations – Europe (Uefa), Asia (AFC) and North and Central America and the Caribbean (Concacaf) – are now said to have several strategies ready if Infantino refuses to resign and is determined to stand for re-election in March, according to The Times.

The idea is to try to "paralyse FIFA," the newspaper writes.

Among other things, a type of boycott is being considered, where they would refuse to participate in FIFA's council and committee meetings or approve decisions, and start rival international tournaments.
