The team played in the fourth division last season, and this summer it was announced that the club would be relegated to the country's regional leagues, which means the sixth division. After unsuccessful appeals, it is now clear that the club will play in the sixth division next season.
Bordeaux last won the top division, Ligue 1, in the 2008-09 season. The club has had major financial problems, partly as a result of the Covid pandemic, and is at risk of bankruptcy.
