The UN's migration agency IOM is laying off around 20 percent of its staff at its headquarters in Geneva, according to employees speaking to AFP.
According to the news agency's sources, at least 200 of the more than 1,000 employees will be let go.
The announcement comes in light of the USA's reductions in its aid budget. The USA has previously accounted for large parts of the financing of several UN agencies.
