At least 40 people have been killed in connection with the US attack on Venezuela on Saturday, The New York Times reports, citing sources.

Among the dead are both civilians and military personnel, according to a senior Venezuelan official.

During the attack, US special forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro along with his wife Cilia Flores.

The US operation has affected hundreds of flights across the Caribbean, The Guardian reports. No airlines were flying over Venezuela on Saturday, according to flight-tracking service Flightradar24. Airlines have also warned that the disruption could continue for days. Flights to and from Puerto Rico and Aruba have been cancelled, among other things.
