The British "Game of Thrones" star becomes the new Lara Croft in Amazon Prime's new version of the series, which in turn is based on the video game "Tomb Raider".
"I'm excited beyond all bounds. It's such an iconic character that means so much to so many - and I'll give it my all", says Turner in a statement that NME has taken part of.
The series starts filming next year but no premiere date has been set yet.
The series is produced and written by the actor and screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is mainly known from the TV series "Fleabag" and the latest film about Indiana Jones.
Lara Croft has previously been played by Angelina Jolie and the Swedish Alicia Vikander. The first video game in the "Tomb Raider" series was released in 1996.
