Shakespeare's sonnets, an acclaimed British wedding comedy, a Greek drama in a new interpretation and a newly written play about the riots during the EU summit in the summer of 2001. These are some of the contents of the Gothenburg City Theatre's spring repertoire.

First up is Shakespeare's poetry. In "Sonnets," choreographer Kenneth Kvarnström, together with video artist and lighting designer Joonas Tikkanen, has created a fusion of theater, dance and music, premiering on January 16.

Beth Steel's newly written play "Till stjärnorna faller ner" has been a success in London. Stefan Larsson directs the wedding comedy with serious undertones. The play will premiere in Sweden on January 23.

In Jerker Beckman's drama "The Gothenburg Riots - as if an other world were possible", past and present are woven together around the events that forever left their mark on the history of Gothenburg and Sweden. Niklas Hjulström directs the play, which will premiere on March 27.

In addition, "Hekabe" is played by the Irish playwright Marina Carr and "Han den andre" by one of Norway's foremost playwrights, Monica Isakstuen.

"This spring will be a love celebration with lots of warmth, longing, laughter and tenderness. The different productions this spring all focus, in different ways, on faith, hope and love," says Linda Zachrison, artistic director of Gothenburg City Theatre, in a press release.
