On Wednesday, the prosecution announced that a 20-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man were charged with suspected extortion or attempted extortion against Son Heung-Min, one of the biggest stars in the Premier League club Tottenham.
According to news agency Yonhap and local media, the former girlfriend sent a picture from an ultrasound and claimed it was the football star's child. Son was demanded 2.1 million kronor (219,000 dollars) – if he did not pay, she would tell the world that she was pregnant with his child.
It is unclear if the woman was actually pregnant with Son's child and local media report that she is believed to have had an abortion. In a later stage, she and the 40-year-old man are said to have demanded Son for an additional around half a million kronor.
Instead of paying, the couple was reported to the police by the Tottenham player, who is also the captain of South Korea's national team. The woman and the 40-year-old man were arrested last month and have been in custody since then.
