The decision means that in principle all operational activities will be relocated, and the hospital's focus will be on care for elderly patients with multiple illnesses, according to SVT Västernorrland. An emergency department will also remain.

According to Regional Councilor Viktoria Jansson (M) to reorganize healthcare in the region.

We are today spending the most money of all regions on hospital care and the least on primary care, which we mainly have at health centers. We must meet the population's need for healthcare earlier, says to the channel.

Opposition Councilor Pia Lundin from the Healthcare Party is dissatisfied with the decision.

It is clearly a bad decision when you close down fully functional hospitals and transfer care to Sundsvall and Örnsköldsvik, she says to SVT.

The decision was made with the vote count 37 to 34.

According to the plan, the region will be able to save 46 million kronor, reports P4 Västernorrland.

The cutbacks will be fully completed by 2027 and will take place in stages starting this year.

The dispute over Sollefteå hospital has been heated. A regional council meeting in Härnösand was interrupted in March after death threats had been received. Later the same month, a Social Democratic politician was forced to leave their political assignments after having threatened a party member.
