Kupcho sank a huge long putt for birdie on the 17th hole and, with a bit of speed, also made birdie on the 18th.
It was enough for her and Lindy Duncan to turn a deficit into a victory against Carlota Ciganda and Céline Boutier in Saturday's final match. What was about to be a 9–7 lead for Europe going into the singles instead became 8–8 and completely tied - and the Americans celebrated almost as if they had won the entire Solheim Cup.
We had an incredible afternoon and managed to quiet the crowd down a bit, they were starting to get loud out there, says Kupcho.
A smattering of stars
For Anna Nordqvist, who is making her first Solheim Cup as captain after nine straight as a player, it is important to instill courage in the players ahead of Sunday's decider at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands.
Perhaps most notably in the star duo Lottie Woad and Charley Hull. The English pair are the only players in the European team to have played four matches - despite poor results.
The 22-year-old debutant Woad and the significantly more experienced Hull have only contributed half a point out of Europe's eight so far.
“Small margins”
But Nordqvist defends her choice.
"They are the two best players we have and there are small margins. I think Lottie was the only one seven under par in the best ball yesterday - then it's a bit tough not to win. And this morning they played against perhaps the best foursome that has ever been played, the Americans were seven under par early on," she says.
Woad is on the same line:
Everyone has played fantastically when we have faced them. But it is match play, right? You can play badly and win, you can play well and lose.
Europe needs to reach 14.5 points to regain the title. For the USA, 14-14 is enough as the reigning champions.
